Brian started his professional career in 1985 with KPMG Peat Marwick, an international accounting firm in Kansas City, where he worked his way up to the position of manager in the tax department. In 1990, Brian moved back to the Emporia area and worked for Agler & Gaeddert Chartered as a tax manager. He started his own firm in Emporia in 1997. After owning his own firm for over 19 years, Brian’s firm merged into Agler & Gaeddert effective January 1, 2016.
Brian works in all areas of tax, however he focuses his practice on business clients with an emphasis on the taxation of financial institutions. He also works with clients on estate tax and business succession planning strategies. He has prepared tax returns and represented clients before the IRS for all sizes of clients including some large publicly held corporations. On various occasions he has provided litigation support services for clients.
Brian also has a business interest in a farming/ranching operation. He owns and manages a ranch with a 200 cow/calf herd and 600 acres of row crops. He enjoys golf and playing basketball, but rarely has time for that since taking over the family farm and ranch in 2011.
Brian volunteers as a member of the finance committee of the Emporia Community Foundation, board of directors of the St. Joseph School Endowment Association, treasurer of the Delta Chapter of the Sigma Tau Gamma Alumni Association. He has volunteered as a trustee of the Emporia Community Foundation, member of the Newman Regional Health finance committee and the finance committee of the Didde Catholic campus center in the past. Brian is an active member of St. Joseph church and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He and his wife, Kay, have four children.
